Maribyrnong River Community Men’s Shed
NEW initiative for MEN in the City of Maribyrnong & Moonee Valley …
The Maribyrnong River Community Men’s Shed is a gathering place for men of all ages to share experiences and knowledge, both technical and life skills, and is a place to build relationships with each other, as well as with the wider community.
The experience and wisdom which comes with age, combined with the enthusiasm and vitality that is a hallmark of youth, brings about a dynamic and potent energy which, when channelled, will provide a launching place to enrich the lives all.
Located at the Living Museum of the West in Pipemakers Park, Maribyrnong, the shed will be housed in the Top Factory. The building, part of the former Hume Pipe Factory, has tri-lingual signs, fig trees that have grown from a workers discarded lunch, Sunshine Harvester machinery and the pipes themselves, are all evidence of a rich cultural history and the history of men’s work and camaraderie. All that is missing to truly bring the building back to life is people.
The men’s shed movement has already played an influential role in promoting men’s health, wellbeing and learning, and the men’s shed model has demonstrated excellent outcomes for men’s health and wellbeing.
With the support of community organisations such as the Living Museum of the West, West Footscray Neighbourhood House, Yarraville Community Centre and the Victorian Men’s Shed Association, as well as strong interest from City of Maribyrnong Councillors Martin Zakharov and Cr Sarah Carter, the Maribyrnong River Community Men’s Shed is sure to succeed in its goals.
We now invite men to come and share in the establishment and growth of a shed they can call their own.
