We URGENTLY need more state government funding – Signatures required for our postcard campaign!

On Tuesday 31st August, WFNH officially launched it’s funding campaign to get 40 hours of government funding per week. Currently our not-for-profit organisation is run by an amazing and dedicated staff and some very passionate volunteers. Sadly, we cannot open our doors for more than 4 days per week due to a lack of funding (currently only funded for 25hrs!!). The facility is kicking goals but we want to do so much more. Our postcard campaign is in full swing, we are collecting signatures NOW of those who support our plight. HELP US make this facility even greater, we need community support to lobby the government before the upcoming state elections. Our West Footscray community deserves it!. If you see a postcard around please grab one and sign.

Calling all “Green Urbanistas”!!!!

Our next community market will be held on World Environment Day, Saturday 5th June, from 9am – 1pm.

“Green Urbanistas” is about sustainability in cities and how we as city dwellers can live respectfully and sustainably on this planet. This term’s market will involve a range of environmentally conscious community groups, social enterprises, and local traders.

The market will feature:

plants and produce; recycled books; recycled funky clothes; hand made clothes; home made food; a slow food kitchen; Waterwatch activity trailer;  Home retrofit advice; kids activities and entertainment; local buskers and much, much more!!!!

The WFNH has successfully run two community markets thus far- the Diwali in the West Festival in Oct 2009 and the Holi Festival in March 2010 (see related posts on this website).

We are mad-keen to continue to run a market EACH TERM.

Each market will have a theme:

Term 1: Holi – Indian Festival of Colours

Term 2: “Green Urbanistas” – Sustainability in Cities

Term 3: Cultures of the Sudan & Horn of Africa

Term 4: Diwali – Indian Festival of Light
